Answer: Chillers with different frequencies cannot be used interchangeably.
Can industrial chillers with different voltages be used interchangeably? For example: Can 3-phase 380V be used interchangeably with 3-phase 220V, 415V, 440V, and 460V?
Answer: Chillers with different voltages cannot be used interchangeably.
Why? Because different frequencies will affect the operating characteristics of compressors, pumps, and fans. In an inductive circuit, changes in frequency will cause changes in the speed and current of the motor. When a 60Hz industrial chiller runs on a 50Hz power supply, the speed will decrease and the power factor may drop, causing the compressor, motor, etc. to overload or overheat.
Conversely, when a 50Hz industrial chiller is running on a 60Hz power supply, the speed will increase, which may cause the chiller to age 1-2 times faster. For purely resistive loads, such as electric heaters, the frequency change has little effect on them and can be used universally within a certain range.
If the industrial chiller needs to switch between power supplies of different frequencies, it is recommended to use a frequency converter or frequency converter. These devices can convert the power supply frequency from 60Hz to 50Hz to ensure the normal operation of the chiller while protecting the safety of the compressor, motor and other electrical components.
